The Toy Industry Welcomes Action Figures with Hearing LossHearlink is extremely proud of be a part of an industry which continues to pioneer equality for those who suffer with hearing loss, regardless of age, race, gender, etc. Yes, sometimes there are setbacks when we see those with hearing loss treated differently, but we’re trying to close that gap and mitigate the scenarios that are brought to our attention. To this point, we’re always so inspired and overjoyed when we see pop culture breakthroughs like this one. More and more companies are coming out with toys, specifically action figures and dolls, that are wearing a variety of hearing aids, due to hearing loss.

Anyone impacted by hearing loss knows that your daily routines, the creature comforts that you’re used to, may change drastically once you’re diagnosed. But this emotional state is amplified when you’re a young child and it’s all that you know. Your friends on the playground and at school act completely differently than you do, and you don’t know why. They don’t have to wear hearing aids, and you may not understand why you do. Hearlink is dedicated to equipping parents for these situations, and toys like the ones below, can be valuable tools in important conversations:

Build-a-Bear- The popular toy workshop where boys and girls can customize stuffed animals to play with at home, is now offering a $2 hearing aid that the kids can add to their Bear. They’re even available in two different colors—red and silver, so your Bear can be as styling as you or your child.

American Girl- For generations, American Girl has been telling the stories of historical girls and women, and bringing them to life through dolls and accessories. They know how important it is to remain relevant and now offer hearing aids for every model of doll. If you’re looking to shop for a brand-new doll, the doll will come properly equipped with the right hearing aids. However, if you own a doll and would like it retrofitted, you can send it to the “Doll Hospital”, to ensure that the hearing aids are the right sort and fit snuggly.

Oticon- Keep an eye out for Oticon’s Safari line. Whenever a hearing aid in this particular line is purchased, it comes ready to roll with the Oticon Hearing Aid Care kit. If you happen to be a child ages 0-4, you’ll also receive Otto, a small stuffed animal who will match you with his own hearing aids.

Just Becuz- And as if stuffed animals and dolls WITH hearing aids weren’t enough, Just Becuz decided to take things to the next level. This products company offers a stuffed animal that is a hearing aid. It was designed to be the perfect place to dry the hearing aids belonging to any child. It has a built-in dehumidifier and is cost-effective at less than $20.
