HEARLINK provides a range of hearing aids to clients throughout Melbourne, improving hearing and lives.
The latest technology in hearing aids improves the lives of those with hearing impairment. There are a variety of hearing aids types and levels of technology. Choosing the right one for you is based on a range of criteria, including:
Initial fitting of the hearing aids is carried out using software designed to achieve optimal fit.
CICs are moulded to fit inside your ear canal, and are best suited to adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. They are small and unobtrusive, but can have relatively short battery life and lack of extra features.
ITCs are also moulded, and fit partly in the ear canal. These are best for mild to moderate hearing loss in adults. These are of medium size and have more features than the CIC, but are susceptible to ear wax clogging.
There are two types of ITE – one that fills the area of your outer ear, and one that only fills the lower part – both of which are best for people with mild to severe hearing loss. ITE are more visible than the previous two types of hearing aids but have more features and have larger, longer-lasting batteries.
BTE are a combination, featuring a hook that goes over the top of your ear and rests behind it, connected by a tube to an earpiece inside your ear canal. They work for people of all ages and can assist with any kind of hearing loss.
RIC or RITE are similar to the BTE model, but with a wire connecting the pieces rather than a tube. The behind-the-ear portion is less visible in this type of aid.
Open Fit is a variant on the BTE, and has now become the most popular version. It keeps the ear canal open so that low-frequency sounds continue to enter the ear naturally and high-frequency sounds can be amplified through the aid. It works well for people with mild to profound hearing loss.
